Personally I was planning on doing as others have, cut the loop next to the elastic, bending it to where I can hook it on the original thigh rivet, and then bending it back straight. That way the rivet wouldn't have to be removed.

Just suggesting using $.30 of elastic rather than a $5 kit that you don't need. The kits are great if you don't have all the shoulder and neck hooks or the thigh rivets are too bent.

I'd be more of a fan of the restringing kits if the elastic was like vintage so it is more like a restoration.
