  • Shows this year

This years show schedules are out and it is looking pretty good. Kentuckiana's Winterfest was this past weekend and we had a blast. Not a ton of vintage but there was a lot of variety. Steve's Winter shows are more a toy event than a Joe event so that was expected. The vintage that was there was very affordable and very nice. (And no Dave, no Ricky's footlocker of Joes. I think we cleaned him out.) Picked up a complete Green Beret set on a Joe, a base Sailor , a vintage Silver Star medal to finally complete my Action man Green Beret set. a couple of Marauder figs and a classified guy cuz it was only $5.

Toy Lanta is the next show scheduled falling on 28-30 March. This is a big toy event and not the Joe Lanta we remember. If you like the more modern side of Joe collecting then this is up your alley, also if you don't mind walking around wall of Funko Pops. We will be skipping it. (Having not been to ATL since before the Pandemic.) The show was bought out by a younger collector and lets say he leans more to the Mattel side of the map than the Hasbro. So this may not be what you remember regarding Toy Lanta as the new owner tries to evolve his brand.

Joe Fest June 20-22 Augusta GA. A popular event geared ore to the ARAH guys but some vintage dealers do show up from time to time. We will not be attending this show

The DFW show is June 27-29 and should be a lot of fun. Char and I attended last year and it was a super fun show. Had a feel of a Brian Savage convention. (Ironically Brian did make an appearance). Char and I will be attending again this year and if and when she ever retires we may make this another annual pilgrimage.

The Kentuckiana GI Joe Toy Expo in Louisville is 19 July with a early bird preview on the 18th. Our go-to show that has morphed into a larger event almost doubling in size in the last several years. Well orchestrated operation ran by the some of the hobby's finest vintage collectors. If you only make one show aa year, this is the one you need to attend.

Joe Lanta has not announced a date for this year as of right now. Like Joe Lanta, it is under new management by the same ownership. I am not in the know, but heard whispers that the owner may be cutting Joe Lanta to focus all efforts into Toy Lanta so we will see. Hate to see the old friend go, but we have already waved good bye once and it came back. . .who knows?

I hear anything else I will update.

I would love to go to a few of these, but, I'm already doing 3 shows this year(Fan Expo Chicago, C2E2, and the Midwest Gaming Classic), and possibly Pinball Expo, San Diego Comicon and the Kane County Toy show. Like I say every year, one of these days......

      Nice rundown, Scott!
      Thanks!
It's been a crazy year, but Kentuckinna im July might be doable!
Even without Ricky Puckett's Joe bucket, it's still a fun show!

The Winter Show in KY was as fun as ever. I went in with a clean slate on what I was looking for and found a few things I needed for some time. The $20 Green Beret silver star was a shocking find. I know it is legit because it came from Derryl DePriest. I have now built a complete vintage Action man green beret from parts from that show spanning over the course of a few years. Patience has paid off for sure as I got him for a fraction of the value that he is. There were a few things I internally wrestled with but I have been very busy with my model builds that I could not recall all I was on the hunt for. That and half my Joes are packed up and I just have not been motivated enough to put them back out. The beat up sailor was really the only Joe that spoke tome there. He was on a shelf next to the Green Beret I also bought but looks so down in the dumps. It truly was the first vintage guy I picked up at the show. I told Don Coffey when I bought it I was leaving him as he is, the playwear made him look so natural.

As for Joe Lanta and Toy Lanta, I don't mean to sound like a negative Nancy, but you hear things. I know the guy that bought the show isn't really a Joe guy, more of a Masters of the Universe guy so you see where I'm going. It is well known that the guy isn't a big fan of the Joe Lanta show and it is evident of the little effort he puts into it. I suggested early om that they should make it a one day show with a Friday preview, then let it grow. If it falls short of expectations then it is less money lost to the promoter. But alas, they wanted to Space X this bitch and go for Mars on the first launch. Couple that with having it scheduled right about the same time as School starting it is next to impossible for us to attend. If I have ever had a complaint over the years about the ATL shows it is the dates. Definitely not conducive to a teacher's schedule.

Like I said, our next show will be the Texas Show, last years was a blast! Greg Brown is jazzed and has a lot of cool events planned. Can't wait!

          Fun!
I'm really itching to get going on my Joes, but I'm still living among my boxes of household goods in a pole barn, waiting for my house to be built. I'm getting antsy.

For us collectors in the Western United States, there is the West Coast GI Joe Show. Well attended by dealers and collectors of vintage GI Joe and 1/6 scale figures. http://www.thetrenchesforum.com/foru...-june-8th-2025

I'm sorry to hear what's happening with Joelanta. I never got to go. I am going to try to attend the DFW show in June. I need some Joe goodness and cheer and this sounds like it's the best plan. I'll also be at the July show in Kentuckiana. This year will be a Joe year for the first time in a while.
